The idea
Every family asks the same question at the first birthday: who is this little person going to be? We made ten blocks so you can ask it out loud.
- A decision The first thing they choose for themselves.
- Ten callings Explorer to chef — nothing ranked, nothing left out.
- A story Each block keeps a wish, printed on the back.
Most families keep the set on a shelf and repeat the ritual with every child.
The ten
One block for
each kind of life.
Ten professions, ten wishes. Tap a block to see the wish behind it, and the short film we made for it.
01/Curiosity
The Explorer
Climbs the stairs just to see what is at the top.
The ritual
Four steps.
About ten minutes.
An old ceremony, updated. No fortune-telling, no pressure — just a moment everyone in the room will remember, and one photograph you will keep forever.
Set the scene
A blanket on the floor. Ten blocks fanned in an arc. One phone, off to the side — nobody needs a camera in the baby's face.
Let them choose
No pointing. No prompting. The first block they pick is the answer. The second one tells you something too.
Read the wish
Each block carries a story. Read it out loud to the room. Someone will cry. That's allowed.
Keep the record
Write the block, the date, and one sentence inside the lid. Open it again on their eighteenth birthday.
Before you start
- A blanket or a rug
- The set, fanned in an arc
- Ten quiet minutes
No scripts, no fortune-telling, no right answer. If the baby ignores the blocks and eats a cracker instead, that is also a valid reading.
01 — Sanding to 400 grit
02 — Finished set
03 — Radiused edges
The making
Heavy in the hand.
Soft at the edge.
One piece of solid maple per block — no veneer, no MDF, no paint. Every edge eased by hand, every face sanded to 400 grit, then sealed with food-safe oil so it survives a year of being chewed, dropped and loved.
From the first families
What they said
after the party.
Three notes out of the first fifty sets. Names shortened, towns kept. Nothing edited except the length.
“We did it at the end of the party, when everyone was a little tired and a little soft. My father read the wish out loud and had to stop twice.”
Sample copy for layout — swap in the real notes before launch.
“He picked The Builder, which is funny because his father is an architect and I am a carpenter. We are trying not to read too much into it.”
“It is heavier than I expected. Real wood, real edges. This is the kind of thing that gets handed down, not thrown out.”
- 50sets made so far
- 9cities on the waiting list
- 10minutes, start to finish
- 0of them thrown out
